We are approaching this home as our forever home. Remodeling is going a bit slower and working on permament solutions.

The kitchen opened into the living area and there was a tiny dining area in the corner of the kitchen. And while the pictures made the house look lovely, the carpet was disgusting, the electrical was atrocious, and they had covered the arched opening with sliding barn doors. We replaced the carpet and kitchen flooring with Luxury Vinyl Planks, removed the barn doors, and converted this space into the dining room.

The next logical thing was the kitchen. It looked white and shiny in the before pictures, but it was a mess! There was concrete on the countertops, which weren’t attached to the cabinets. The cabinets weren’t attached to anything and freestanding. The vent hood didn’t line up with the stove. There was a garbage disposal attached to the sink, but no electrical plug for it. No backsplash to speak of, the sink side was a concrete wall and the stove side just backed up to a half wall with no backsplash.

We removed all the cabinets, replaced the flooring, painted cabinets and repalced them correctly to include placing the stove under the vent hood. We added butcheblock countertop to include a backsplash and bar where there wasn’t one. We installed the farmhouse sink and added the dishwasher. Where the dining table used to sit, we built in a bench seat with storage and a huge hutch! (I say “we” lightly, my husband is the magic worker.)

The den area was being used as a dog room and weight room and it was disgusting. We pulled out the nasty carpet and I installed foam squares, a cheap alternative to carpet. This area became our living room. The far wall was awful. It was painted poorly and was just peeling off the wall. They attached barn wood with framing nails and removing them tore up the wall. My husband created this beautiful board and batten wall.

The bathrooms in this house, all three of them, were in terrible shape. I was so disappointed with the inspector on this house, but that’s another story. We got the main bathroom operable and that’s it. The downstairs bathroom got a new sink and shower faucet. But the master bath got a full overhaul!Â
